NARCISSISM

Amid the incredible high infidelity rate in American and the recent scandals of former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer and Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick the Today Show did this piece on "Are We Wired to Cheat On Our Mates"

Now I will admit that I was still a little "blurry eyed" when the piece aired but one of the experts - University of Texas psychologist and author David Buss - made this very interesting observation:

"Men who are high on the narcissism personality characteristic are more likely to cheat than men who are lower. They put their own needs and their own urges before those of their families ... We have to be realistic about our human nature. We have these impulses to stray, but we also have inhibitions against straying and the ability to choose whether or not we do.”

This is just another example of the major ethical crisis facing all of humanity -- selfishness. The longer I interact with people and hear their stories, an individuals livelihood essentially boils down to whether they are treating others with a sense of selfishness (i.e. narcissism) or a sense of servant hood.
